Install Shotcut on Pop!_OS 22.04

In this post I detail my install process for Shotcut , a video editor, on Pop!_OS 22.04. This OS is based on Ubuntu 22.04, but has chosen to use flatpak instead of snap.

flatpak is installed by default on Pop!_OS 22.04, my OS of choice at the moment. System 76 has a basic overview of using flatpak on the terminal available here: Using Flatpak from the command line (Pop!_OS) . I can see that flatpak is available on my machine and flatpak is already setup as the place to look for packages by running the following commands at the terminal:

$ flatpak --version
Flatpak 1.12.7

$ flatpak remotes
Name Options
flathub user

Following shotcut install instructions at flathub , installation is a simple:

$ flatpak install flathub org.shotcut.Shotcut

You can run Shotcut from the terminal using

$ flatpak run org.shotcut.Shotcut

but is simple to hit the super key at this point to bring up the Pop!_OS application launcher and start typing shotcut. You should see the Shotcut application come up as an option before you finish typing. I have done some very basic testing of Shotcut at this point and everything seems to be working- yay!
